On afternoon after school my older brother and I walked home from school. We lived in Southwest Philadelphia, and our school was about 10 blocks from our house. As we journeyed home, we squeezed each other’s hand and ran most of the way. I was six, and my older brother was seven.
Before deciding to walk home that afternoon by ourselves, my older brother and I waited for our mother for almost a half hour. Once the school yard was cleared and we saw no sign of her we began walking home. I was terrified because we didn’t live in the safest neighborhood. I believed my brother was afraid as well however, he never showed it.
